for forms of flow / flow of forms
The research and exhibition project "Flow of Forms/ Forms of Flow" focuses on design histories between Africa and Europe. It is concerned with the hitherto neglected examination of design objects from Africa, their techniques and design foundations. From an interweaving-historical perspective, the genesis of form (Forms) and cultural interactions (Flows) are examined. The project thus ties in with the 'global turn' in art and design studies, which aims to correct the one-sided orientation of research primarily on European and American design through a further regional diversification and, above all, through a transcultural perspective.
The project is a cooperation of the Institute for Art History of the LMU and the Museum of Architecture of the TUM, Museum Fünf Kontinente, Kunstraum, Galerie Karin Wimmer and the Cultural Department of the City of Munich. Furthermore, it was shown at the Völkerkundemuseum Hamburg.
The exhibition is curated by Prof. Dr. Kerstin Pinther and Alexandra Weigand, Dipl. Des./M.A. with students of art history of the LMU. Important project partners are Cheick Diallo/ Diallo Design (Bamako/Mali) and CUCULA (Berlin).
